AFP-AL Kicks Off “Sweet Home Freedom Tour” with Statewide Push for Regulatory Reform
MONTGOMERY, AL – Americans for Prosperity-Alabama (AFP-AL) is kicking off the first leg of its “Sweet Home Freedom Tour” with ten stops across the state in September. The goal of the tour is to build public support for a slate of policy priorities ahead of the 2027 legislative session. September’s stops will focus on the REINS Act, which would transform Alabama’s regulatory environment.
Alabama’s regulatory code currently includes more than 117,000 restrictions, many of which are outdated and contradict each other. Moreover, six of Alabama’s closest neighbors – Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee – have already enacted REINS-style legislation, leaving Alabama geographically surrounded by states that have already made the change.
AFP-AL State Director Adam Thompson released the following statement:
“Unelected bureaucrats at state agencies shouldn’t be able to raise costs on Alabamians without a single vote of the legislature. This tour is about making sure people understand who’s actually writing the rules that affect their businesses and their lives — and giving them a direct way to tell their legislators it’s time for a vote. Simply put: No vote? No rule.”
The tour stops include:
- September 10: Huntsville, Sylacauga, Daphne
- September 15: Cullman, Birmingham
- September 16: Dothan
- September 17: Decatur, Montgomery, Enterprise
- September 22: Tuscaloosa
Alabamians can find the event nearest them and register at AFPAlabama.com.
