Adam Thompson

State Director

Adam Thompson is the Alabama State Director for Americans for Prosperity (AFP), one of the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots advocacy organizations. In this role, he leads statewide efforts to advance policies that expand opportunity, strengthen free markets, and protect individual liberty, working closely with community leaders, activists, and policymakers to drive meaningful change.

Before assuming his current position, Adam directed a national AFP policy team with a portfolio spanning K–12 and higher education, criminal justice reform, and free speech initiatives. His career reflects nearly 20 years of experience and leadership in Alabama state government and politics, including serving as Deputy Commissioner of a state cabinet agency and senior executive roles under Governor Kay Ivey, a State Auditor, and three Secretaries of State.

Adam also gained national policy expertise through his work with Governor Jeb Bush’s Foundation for Excellence in Education, where he advanced education reform efforts across four southern states. In 2014, he was a Republican candidate for Alabama State Auditor.

Adam and his wife, Erica, are proud parents of three children and reside in Pike Road, Alabama.
